Pekabex, as a leading manufacturer of prefabricated structures in Poland, has significant research and development potential in the form of qualified staff and a constantly expanded machine park. The separation of a dedicated unit and the definition of the agenda for its work allowed for further development and systematization of these activities and for the reflection of Pekabex’s strategic assumptions.

Achieving strategic goals requires centralization and development of the Group’s research and development area and the establishment of a multidisciplinary unit integrating and developing the innovative activities undertaken so far, researching technologies, processes and products of the construction sector, in particular related to the production of prefabricated elements. The creation of a dedicated structure dedicated to R & D & I is a practice used by the most innovative companies in the world. Conducting this type of work, i.e. activities with a high level of risk and often longer than the standard time horizon, requires a different approach than in the case of standard business activities. Dedicated project management processes, creating teams of employees responsible for various areas of the company’s operations, managing the diffusion of know-how from the environment or portfolio assessment of activities carried out are most effectively implemented and managed within a separate organizational unit of the company.

In September 2021, Pekabex BET received funding from the Smart Growth Operational Program 2014-2020 under Sub-measure 1.1.1. “Industrial research and development work implemented by enterprises” for the implementation of an innovative project called “Research and development works for the development of an innovative prefabricated bathroom module with its production technology”. The project concerns the development, as part of R&D works, of internationally innovative prefabricated bathroom modules for multi-family housing and public utility buildings as well as administrative and office parts of industrial facilities with a new technology of their production. Bathroom modules will complement the range of PEKABEX structural elements in the above-mentioned areas and will bring a number of advantages and benefits to recipients by increasing the degree of prefabrication of the entire facility and shortening the time of investment implementation.

The total cost of the Project implementation is PLN 8,803,680.00. The total amount of eligible expenses is PLN 8,803,680.00. Under the terms of the agreement of September 28, 2021, the National Center for Research and Development, as the organization organizing the competition, awarded Pekabex Bet S.A. co-financing in the amount not exceeding PLN 4,034,479.50.

The expense eligibility period started on July 1, 2021 and will last until July 31, 2023.

The company undertook to ensure the durability of the Project’s effects for a period of 5 years from the date of completion of the Project.

In 2017, Pekabex BET received funding from the Intelligent Development Operational Program 2014-2020 under Measure 2.1 Support for investments in R&D infrastructure of enterprises for the implementation of an innovative project called “Establishment of a Research and Development Center within the structure of PEKABEX BET S.A.”. Thanks to the creation of the R&D Center, we participate in strengthening the innovativeness of the Polish economy and promoting research and development works in our country. As part of the work, the R&D Center cooperates with technical universities throughout the country.

The total cost of the Project implementation is PLN 7,176,538.80. The total amount of eligible expenses is PLN 5,021,576.26. On the terms and conditions set out in the contract of September 12, 2017 and the annexes to the contract, the Organization Organizing the Competition awarded Pekabex Bet S.A. co-financing in the amount not exceeding PLN 1,016,227.75.

The expenditure eligibility period started on January 1, 2017 and ended on December 15, 2019.

The company undertook to ensure the durability of the Project’s effects for a period of 5 years from the date of completion of the Project.

The main goals of the Research and Development Center are:

• Implementation of the Company’s plans for R&D works in cooperation with external entities,
• Increasing the use of modern concrete prefabrication in construction, especially in housing, which will allow the Group to participate in the implementation of strategic housing development programs – government and local government and will enable better meeting the market demand for modern, affordable apartments,
• Reduction of construction investment costs thanks to the use of proprietary, innovative solutions,
• Shortening the time necessary for the implementation of construction processes thanks to the use of innovative connections that significantly accelerate the assembly process on the construction site, which, thanks to the implementation of the project, will be produced by the Group itself (which will minimize risk of delays in the event of the necessity to wait for the execution of the order by sub-suppliers),
• Adaptation of the production process to the decreasing availability of workforce thanks to: process automation while improving efficiency and at the same time achieving higher quality parameters and eliminating errors,
• Implementation of activities related to sustainable development, i.e. increasing the share of more environmentally friendly solutions (e.g. research on the use of ecological concrete in prefabrication),
• Integration of R&D personnel who have so far conducted research and development works within the distributed Design Department,
• Extension of the research equipment currently in place with advanced research and development equipment enabling the undertaking of R&D works in previously unattainable areas for Pekabex,
• Modernization of the infrastructure currently owned by the Company in order to create appropriate conditions for the installation of equipment and preparation of workstations for specialized R&D personnel.
